This cast iron birdbath stands just over 33" tall. It's light enough to be moved easily about the yard but heavy enough to withstand 45-mph Buffalo winds. And yes, it passed (barely) the Buffalo winter test lasting two winters thus far in the ice and snow.

This type of birdbath is typical of Victorian style but it also lends itself to other styles as well. Solid construction, easily assembled, the birdbath should withstand years of use. The only weakness with our test unit was the basin which started to rust (badly colored the water) after the second winter. We repainted the interior of the bowl with several coats of spray-on "hunter green" acrylic paint, and it appears once again ready to weather the weather. The fact that we had to refinish the bowl gives it its "barely passed" status for the Buffalo winter test, even though it remained structurally sound.

Victorians were heavily into ornamental cast iron (OK, that's a really bad pun) and the simple lines of this birdbath (e.g, solitary bird on perch) are keeping with the designs of that era. Therefore, we consider a better description of this product to be "a Victorian-style ornamental cast iron birdbath." Who says you can't pick-up some stylish items from Harbor Freight Tools™ amongst the compressors and the high-speed metal cutting band saws?

We expect this cast iron birdbath to last for well over a decade left year-round outside including the Buffalo winters with only occasional repainting of the basin's interior. It's a good buy at the frequent sale price, but with a 20%-off coupon you can nab one for $26.39 when on-sale which is actually lower than our target price!

Bottom line: This cast iron birdbath is a great buy at the target price or lower (which is easily achieved by using one of Harbor Freight's™ omnipresent 20%-off coupon during the regular sale price.
